Madeline Soglin

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Madeline Soglin received formal dance training throughout her childhood.  She continued her study of dance at the California Institute of the Arts where she earned her BFA.  After college, Madeline danced professionally for 15 years with Loretta Livingston and Dancers. As a principal member of the company, she  taught and led many of the company's dance workshops and classes at various colleges and universities as well as creative movement workshops for children throughout the Los Angeles area school district.

Madeline shifted her focus to Pilates in 1999 where she began an intensive study with master instructors Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia Santo.   She completed her Pilates apprenticeship and was certified to teach in 2000.  She is a level 4 Romana's Pilates Certified Instructor, which qualifies her to train new apprentices during their process of becoming certified instructors. She continues to study Pilates with Romana’s daughter,  Sari Mejia Santo and attends Continuing Professional Education seminars and classes throughout the year.

Madeline’s passion for teaching Pilates is evidenced in the strong, bonding, and lasting relationships she builds with her clients. Her strong belief in the benefits of the Pilates Method, coupled with her unique ability to connect with each person she instructs creates an environment of trust and connection in which each client can reach their Pilates and fitness goals.

Madeline opened MadKat Pilates in 2011 with her business partner and friend Kathleen Snyder.  She became sole owner of the studio in 2017 and is proud of the continued growth and success of the studio. Madkat Pilates has won “Best Pilates Studio” in the Suburban Essex Reader’s Choice Awards for the last 6 years in a row.

Maddie’s instruction in the Romana’s Pilates method is highly specific and technical, to the point that I have taken classes outside of the country and trainers recognize that I have been trained by someone who is an expert in the traditional method of Pilates. On a more personal level, I have severe scoliosis and have previously tried Pilates with a number of other studios. It never worked for me. Maddie has been the only person to effectively modify exercises to match the challenges that my scoliosis presents, while also helping me gain the general strength I need to accomplish physical challenges I didn’t think possible before. Maddie is a gifted instructor and I can honestly say she has changed my life. She has substantially lowered my pain level as she helped me to gain general overall strength. She works me hard, always offers new challenges but makes it fun while we work.
